It is using the volcanic heat to reproduce, but unfortunately for it, it tastes really good and makes the people who eat it very strong
If the mushrooms are cooked they reproduce quickly due to being introduced to heat
Because we cooked a bunch they spread wildly throughout the area
But Varesa can eat an unlimited amount of food and ate the god faster than it could grow.
From here on we know not to cook the mushrooms and Varesa and the tribe will continue to eat them as quickly as they spawn so the problem is solved so long as the area stays populated.
