You took offence to my use of ad hoc, even though that describes the event "Warp in the West" accurately. Sometimes writers write themselves into a corner. Which, fantasy naturally allows for more ad hoc writing opportunities. Also, just because something can exist in a setting, doesn't mean it's good by default. Imagine if in Return of the Jedi, Darth Vader and the Emperor just randomly died offscreen to some unspoken of hero, and the movie just ended.
