I feel that's an issue with American and even European stuff too.
Specially with the MCU around.
Like how many are influenced by Genndy or Bakshi?
Or the likes of 2000AD and Metal Hurlant?
You probably heard "CalArts" being applied to the "beanmouth" style of cartoons but John K used it to describe any Disney derivative show/movie (Which includes Iron Giant and Prince of Egypt).
