High level Continent warriors can still get worn down by human wave tactics, it's just that if they have support from an army to let them rest and watch their backs, they will never go down. You can see it depicted in IX though that Rance's party getting bogged down and caught by a sizable army was a constant concern because that small of a group couldn't deal with a 1000+ troops.
