If you wanna get down to it I could still have roughly the same experience without the no hats mod since cosmetics don't affect gameplay. The occasional pink colored faggot is an eye sore for sure but doesn't impact the gameplay. I had a friend reinstall the game recently after 10 years of playing it and he said it was exactly as he remembered.
