Is it battles or campaigns that's giving you difficulty? An easy fix for both, total shot in the dark guess, but recruiting a second lord to follow your LL and bait ambushes lets you dominate battles especially with Kholek and a big pile of shaggoths, trolls, knights, which should make campaigns much better if you can almost trivialize one army each turn.
