In the past you actually had to be at the right time to trigger specific relationship cutscenes, and they'd not trigger until that time comes naturally.
They completely took all of that out. Nowadays the daytime doesn't matter anymore. (Also you had to be at the right day time to collect certain coins for the cat, and HIA was the ONLY way to advance the day, outside of a ONE TIME PER DAY sleep you were allowed to do and advanced the time by one period)
