You're mistaken. 5120x1440, 5120x2560, 5120x3860, and many more resolutions are all 5k. 5120x2880 is simply one of the more common 5k resolutions, but common does not mean only, or that the others are "fake". 5k means it has a horizontal resolution of 5000 pixels, just like 4k means the same thing for 4000 pixels.
