SPARTAN-IIs were abducted at the age of like six years old and subjected to very rigorous training programs, though in fairness ONI was pretty up front with them about what happened to them and what they were intended to be. Most of them took it pretty stoically, and served the UNSC loyally despite the way they were treated. They were largely more loyal to Halsey than anyone though, viewing her as a mother figure. Some of them went rogue later though I think, especially after the war with the Covenant ended and Halsey was arrested then subsequently defected.
