I will also note that comparing SNES-era games, where writers had purely technical limitations on writing, with modern games is the height of idiocy. It was a different time, different goals and priorities, and a different culture of writing. By the way, I don't remember Balthier at the end before his "death" starting a dull lenghty passage explaining the plot of the game and its main message. I don't remember Tidus jumping into a cloud, or holding his dying father, starting a 10-minute monologue about the main themes and plot points of the game too. Hmmmmm, it is as if...the writers in these games understand when it's time for exposition or powerful thematic message dump, and when it's time to shut up and let the scene convey emotion without watery fucking text.
