Affinity is huge, but it's a reliability thing, it won't automatically make your umas better like blue sparks.
Whites are the same and also the opposite, good whites can be a big stat bomb, give you great skills, or help you get skills for cheaper so you can get 1-2 more in the end, but any given white only ever has a small chance of proccing.

So basically, how much do you want to gamble and bank on highrolling?
Prioritizing whites leads you to a higher cieling but a lower floor.
