They've improved a lot but early on it feels like they weren't terribly familiar with or adept at building a visual novel. It's not just controls, but execution is pretty clunky from the scene transitions to the sprite fading... I think it took until late volume 3 before they learned how to pan over an image. I'm also not entirely sure they understand how dialog choices work, half the time they seem to assume you say everything on every button.
It's not just this game, a lot of games would benefit from a better understanding of visual novel standard controls and conventions. It's not all bad though, they're gotten better, and at least blue archive has basics like a backlog, there's more than a few rpgs and novel adjacent games that don't.
