I believe it's because they make games now with the intention of doing the absolute bare minimum during creation so they can skrimo by and save money. All these extra features and things we had in the past take time to make and implement and test and all that shit. They figured out that while some of these features are appreciated by players, people will still buy and play the game as long as it's a minor disappointment and nothing serious. Because that's what they want to do. Get you so used to disappointment that it becomes normal. Once it's normalized, players won't care and some will even defend the new choices because they'd rather have something instead of nothing at all.
