I imagine it's because anyone with even a lick of programming knowledge nowadays goes on to doing corporate software dev or AI where the money is, rather than gaming. Every "dev" working on gaming is the leftover garbage that couldn't land a higher paying job or was already well-off enough to take a shittier job doing something they "enjoy"
