there are so many mechanics into play when spotting in ARB that is really difficult to understand how it all works together. Like if you have the sun in your direct FOV, an enemy that your ace crew could spot at 5-6km now can get spotted only at 2km.
Something similiar happens if the enemy has the ground as background, but with less prominence.
Also if someone of your team, or some of the AI planes spot an enemy you can see him from even 40km.
Basically, getting spotted early by even a single AI unit is a death sentence since the whole enemy team will B-Line on you.. That's why after every engagement that you win you need to dip out fast, climb back and attack from another vector.
Honestly, i like that kind of complexity and if you start to understand the system it lets you cheese entire battles, but for a casual non autistic player it's "just bullshit"
