The problem with hangouts is they were originally marketed as close to a VN dating sim mode as Genshin could get, but started feeling like 2-3 entirely separate quests taped together by whatever the first decision or 2 you made was, and then you would usually be railroaded until right before the ending which splits into 2 endings for each branch
Remember it took them a while to add the QoL to make going for the other routes not require you to sit through the same shit all over again.
Plus due to the nature of the multiple choice endings, none of the hangouts can actually be canon. At some point it'd be better off having several quests for the characters instead of the hangout.
