I'd have to dig up my old posts but I remember being very disappointed in how it treated some characters, it was so close to being great and just flopped instead. At least it's artistically on a high level and somewhat interesting because of that and superb directing. Some of the arcs (namely Chihiro's and true) are better than others.
Not sure what the guy hating the anime is on about when it took what the game failed at and improved it tremendously, it's one of the most 'experimental'/'artsy' shaft shows aswell so visually it's equally as if not more amazing than the VN. I suppose he's right that it changes a few major things but imo it was a big improvement - at the very least the VN is worth reading just to get more enjoyment out of the anime.
