you don't need to pay for anything but avatar items are gonna be much harder to get since you'll need to farm avatar tickets which are rare and limited (could scrounge like maybe 5 monthly assuming no events are going on). Each ticket gives you one roll at a banner and you have a 50% chance of getting an avatar item from any banner.
