Not as much damage as the spin, and harder to set up. Regardless of the attack, if you deploy your shields, the damage still goes to them.
And both attacks take up energy. Even if Tricera doesn't sit on its ass, it still spends less energy that a Welkin that tries to melee it. Especially while spinning. So eventually, you end up with a very drained Welkin and a very alive Tricera that just reloaded its Howitzer.
