D4 is more bleak than the others. They were probably looking at Berserk for reference after the Eclipse as to what regions of the continent would look like flooded with demons.

I think it’s too bleak narratively and visually. There has to be a bit of levity so that you grow more attached to the characters and the darker moments hit harder, but that’s very hard to do in this series.

I honestly don’t know what a Diablo with levity would be. Would probably start to feel like Dragon Age.
