What an asspull. And he's playing PoE. You don't get those "million dollar" items from the get go either. Sure you can roll some crazy shit in the endgame stages, but I'm guessing he's made a huuuge mental shortcut there. Once you get to the endgame, which in itself is another discussion, THEN you should have some crazy drops. I think what he should've said there is that items need allow us to change our playstyle, much like you could delete mobs with your evasion in season 2 of D4 with vampiric powers.
Also, between uniques and mythics we should see a variety in how they modify skills behavior/effects. This is why runes where fun Part of what made D2 fun for instance was the fact you could turn your non-sorcerer class into teleporting beast. Hell, even kanai's cube from D3 added to variety even if there was power creep already. But it was fun nonetheless.
Basically, I think the major problem with D4 is that it isn't fun in a way that you can play around with your character and experiment. For some reason devs treat the game as some serious arpg title, which it isn't nor should be. Most of their ideas feel sterile as if they're not playing their game - a VERY high possibility when pic related is what they were able to delegate to "play" and talk about being a lesb- I mean creating dungeons. Speaking of which, I agree with >>2041617 on Immortal. At least there you can see some spark of fun in devs, even though it IS a p2w game.
And just a thought, but I wonder if they could add shoulder pads as additional item slot.
