I actually like 1 the best as a personal preference. It’s nowhere near as mechanically engaging as the others, but the atmosphere and OST make you feel like you’re DESCENDING.
The only other time I feel the same throughout the series is in Diablo 2’s prison cell levels, where the doors and line of sight, plus the constant mobs and navigation, make you feel stressed like in 1.
As much as I think 3 and 4 are better games overall, they don’t hit that “survival horror” gameplay because you’re just so fast.
