>4’s the only one that is character driven. 3 is, but the WoW writing team is there.
You've just contradicted yourself. If D4 is the only character-driven one then by that logic D3 can't be. And if it is than D4 can't be the only one. Whether people writing WoW were involved shouldn't be a factor in that argument. That's the problem though, none of the NPCs written by D4 people feel engaging. They're annoying at best. Lorath who was a side character in the last game becomes a broken shell of a man who fucks off to who knows where at the end and his only redeeming quality is his VA - Ralph Ineson with a fantastic voice. Hardly material keep you "connected" to the character though. The girl shows resilience on par with that of Tal Rasha when it comes to holding soulstone. Why? We don't know. Maybe she's just built different. There's no explanation for it. To counter point that - Marius in D2 was driven mad by being in the mere presence of the Dark Wanderer.
If the point of the plot was to make it over-packed with plot points and have depressed and down-to-earth people in it then I give them 5 star commendation for the effort.

If you're asking which Diablo has the best narrative, then with nostalgia goggles on it'd be D2 but I liked D3 plot enough to put it in front of its predecessor.
