I hate Hoyo but it's clear they have their place because Japan dropped the ball with releasing cute guys in anything anime related. They either made their jrpgs go full moid gooner -Star Ocean, Tales of to an extent, or they wanted to be like Western games. Hoyo occupies the vacuum left by cute guys in jrpgs and visual novels that most zoomers don't play because many of them can't read and don't want to read. That's why as much as I hate Hoyo for their practices, it's clear why no one has been able to dethrone them. Waifufags can go play hundreds of other waifu gachas, but there is nothing for this untapped audience of female players who, while they might also like otome or BL games, are also just into regular story games and regular rpgs with plot. The main reason I see given by people for why they won't quit Hoyo is that no other game is offering the same experience. They don't want 2d card collectors, they want action. And they like the experience of being able to theorycraft, since theories and speculation also help build fandoms.

It's not that Twst isn't popular, for a joseimuke I'd put it up there with Enstars in being the only one that got enough popularity globally, partly because of the Disney brand helping to carry it. But it's so clear the failure to innovate didn't help. People care about the gameplay and as much as I hate Hoyo's chokehold on female players, it's because no other joseimuke stepped up to the plate. The most buzz I saw about Twst on twitter lately was people hyping up the English dub voice actors. Now I hate ENG VAs and their cults of personality on twitter, but it's important to notice how trends change, especially if you want that big audience.
