You could try some half-feral types like Kat from Lucario-anon's story. Smart enough to talk, not necessarily smart enough to help. Plus it'd probably freak Simon out pretty bad to see a human reduced to that. Actual humans are pretty tough, but maybe one got caught up in a psychic incident like Matsui and got teleported out to the forest.
