Well I was an art student so we mainly did stuff themed around that in my area, really. Never really did parties but generally speaking people'd dress up, we'd have some casual vidya tourneys, do themed timed drawing stuff, was nice. Though that was just us art nerds, more broadly speaking there were costume contests and spooky movie showings.
