People who hire artist don't care if you have a degree or not. They only care about your portfolio. A good art school will help you build a portfolio while you're there, but you don't need to go to art school to build an art portfolio. Art schools are mostly a grift.

You seem to have a version of "born in the wrong generation" syndrome, but with writing instead of music. The true is modern art is just as good or bad as old art. Old art only seems better in comparison because the shitty old art gets forgotten. The shitty modern art is waved in your face because it's new and has marketing forces behind it.
