On an RG35XX-SP the buttons will pierce through the membranes and damage the contacts after several months of usage. In the revision (Any transparent model) they have a fix for this for the face buttons already implemented, but the d-pad was not fixed.
All you need to do is print some of these:

Open up your system, and slip them onto the silicone membrane. That's it. They're essentially minor risers that prevent the dome piercing. It has to be done pretty much asap when you get it or it will eventually make the system unusable.
