Nobody knows how score works, the best anyone's got is inaccurate guesswork. I don't think even Triumph knows how score victory works. My best guess in your case would be that the opponent got a huge magic/economy score boost due to having a ton of gold and mana stored with no way to spend it, which is bullshit but everything about score victory is bullshit anyway. I just turn it off in all of my games.
