I haven't have the occasion to try the new biomes, but too much of new content seems simply too slow to be "viable" (i.e: winning year 5 at the absolute maximum, with 4 being the target and 3 being a great game). I can sacrifice a villager to get a small boost to production, but the game will be over before the production boost is worth more than a villager alive. Same for strider ports (never got more than 2 trips with it), and, I suspect, the new biomes as well.
The simple fix would be to have more variety in the scope of maps. There is a framework in the sandbox game mode to have maps that require up to 30 reputations, at the very least have a "twice the reputation, twice the rewards" event maps could make these variants more engaging (and break the monotony of the game as it is).
