I re-played OG C&C a while back just before the remaster happened

simulator because the first game hasn't invented build queues yet and you can build infantry only one at a time. Also game has a few design decisions like absurdly short TTK and crap vision range on units meaning you will run into enemy defences and die. AI in campaign missions (since there is no skirmish anyway) is only very rudimentary and blatantly cheats while you run out of resources fairly quickly because see previous point so clearing it is kinda a slog.
I like the games for what they are, but now I lean towards that C&C style RTS is just an outdated concept in general.
