They responded to the audience, not being a huge focus isn't required for it being live. In Breaking Dimensions for example they just did their thing and reacted to their senpai and said thank you a million times.
The fact that the people who were just "performing" still exist the stage and then pop in again for MC is precisely so they can switch between recording and live feed. If it was all recorded it would be smoother.
