I think they're just embarrassed. Whenever they make these posts for comiket or asking for fanart and I point out artists the artists tend to like my replies, but they almost never reply themselves.
The only exception is when they make the "this is a paid commission" posts, then everyone stops holding back, but if it's just self promotion they often don't say anything.
