Yes. They were financially idiotic, and financially irresponsible, and did not seem to be self-aware about either. It seems like they didn't bother noticing how bad their own contracts were until an inexcusably late hour.
I am co-owner of a business, and we have made some mistakes over the years, but I can't imagine lying like this to try and "fix" anything. Lying doesn't fix accounting. You fucked up? You make a plan, but part of that plan is (1) tell the truth, (2) tell it fast, (3) move on to the "fixing" part, regardless how painful that is.
