I mean this is just how consumerism and capitalism works, unfortunately. Yeah it sucks but it's how entertainment media makes money. Most people are mature adults who can recognise this and self-regulate against these forces. Nobody enjoys participating in marketing but, you know, attempts at alternative systems haven't been met with much tolerance from the powers that be (nor have they historically turned out well, admittedly).
