The problem is the current regime in America is using them as blanket weapon and not targeting specific industries to protect American industrial interests, which is what tariffs are normally used for and why they weren't completely removed last time. Unless there's a direct competitor for holomerch production in America, the current 15% trump tax hike on holomerch would not stand if a friendly government is able to take power again, but that's a big if and getting off topic.
