It's biological. Historically men who spend their time and energy being around or pursuing taken women were less successful at having their own children. The compulsion to instantly lose interest in spending time around a woman you know is unavailable is an evolutionary advantage. A significant enough advantage that it has persisted for tens of thousands of years. You can attempt t intellectualize yourself out of it and suppress your own biology. But if you have any self respect you won't do that.
