Yes, I followed the /g/ Rentry guide but didn't install the Japanese language pack from the start because I didn't think I'd need to. The keyboard works just fine, but setting non-unicode to JP doesn't fix everything, there's still a lot of characters that appear as black diamonds with question marks in them.
