Nobody, literally nobody, actually has any idea what's going on. The most we've come up with is ways of navigating around the patterns extant in the relatively ordered parts of this world in a given historical period - emphasis on relative as in relativistic - but what's the chances, out of all the belief systems of the world and none of them achieving lasting domination of all the others for more than a few centuries at a time, that one of them happens to have the real big truth of the universe correct and all the others are false and they just happen to not have been listened to any more than the others? Btw I find most philosophers show a tendency to take observations or feelings about their own life or locale and universalise them, overextending to say they apply to our whole world.
