I don't know that I would call it substance dualism, but the soul doesn't have to be made of the same substance as the body to still have some type of independent existence.
I've seen a particular hallucination, I saw it for a moment. I heard the words my soul said "this is the most pure form of my higher self".
I saw a momentary flash of pure blue light, and it was shaped as a structure. The structure was some type of tube connected to my body, extended out into free space connecting to a very strange orb type form, but it flashed so briefly I couldn't identify its form, nor did I see what the tube was connected to on my body.
But I did very clearly see the blue tube like filament of light, and it appeared a bit like plasma, but also like ethereal substance a bit like photochemical reactions in the brain while tripping.
I actually see a version of this when I look at my spirit lover too, but its form is more faint to me, I can't see it fully while in my body.
When I go out of my body sometimes I see her and she is completely invisible shimmering layer of light shrouding a human form, and when I raise my vibration enough I can start to see her as a solid entity. I see her as human, with a vertical 3rd eye in the center of her forehead. She claims she is human, in its most advanced form of evolution.
As to 'what' these things are, I speculate it could be several things. One would be some type of phase of matter, similarly to how we have solid, liquid, gas, and plasma phases, there might be some other type of phase we haven't detected yet.
I've heard entities claim they are a different subatomic vibration than we are, could be that.
I've also see this ethereal gossamer filaments of light all the time. Its like light decided of its own will to stay in one location and vibrate the same pattern over and over again in the shape of an entities awareness within a particular area of space, rather than traveling in a straight line at 300,000m/s.
