I believe that it is Rome that has departed from the faith once handed down, since a lot of what it teaches, especially the Marian doctrines which are the context of this thread, are simply not part of the written record. There is no secret oral tradition which is so different and alien from the written record that God has preserved for us.
There is, for example, an unbroken record throughout the entire Bible of people only praying to God. They all just prayed to God. The book of Psalms are prayers to God. The prophets all prayed only to God. Everyone in the NT only prayed to God. Jesus taught that we should pray to God. Jesus prayed to God. the apostles prayed only to God. Stephen, while being stoned to death, prayed to God. Again and again we are told to pray to God, that He will help us, forgive us, guide us and so on. But no, the romans tells us, actually there was an oral-only tradition of praying to Mary and to other dead Christians all along, and thats what you should be doing too and, if you dont, you are 'talking shit' about them.
No, thats not true. its just not there. theres no sign of it, not a whisper. its wrong.
