I believe the permitted involvement of trans men in gay spaces is mostly due to the vagueness of sexuality. I have discussed with many people about their sexuality, and there appears to be two sides: those who appreciate genitals more than appearance, and those who appreciate appearance more than genitals.
That is to say, some gay men will vibe only for people with dicks, and other gays will vibe with anyone who looks masculine enough. The same philosophy can also be applied (somewhat) to straight people and futas, and many other combinations.
