Are you deliberately trying to go for a film grain effect, or are you shooting on an ancient 400D?

Aside from the graininess, and some ropey shadow management probably resulting from limitations of what appears to be a bit of a confined environment, these aren't half anon.

Investing in some additional lighting to cover the shadows behind your subject will make a big difference. It's counterintuitive to think that you should be lighting the environment instead of the subject, but if you hide the shadows you hide distractions and draw more focus to the subject.

Also, you say she's a dancer. So make her pose like a dancer. From my own experience, dancers are at their most attractive when in those deeply extended and almost contorted poses that only they, through years of training, can do. Gym bunnies and bikini models sculpt themselves to look their best when at rest. Dancers with their muscle mass and sinewyness look better in motion.

Thanks anon. We were on MDMA that night and I had one light (bumblebee on a stand), I was barely holding it together, used quite a high ISO hence the grain. EOS-R with a nifty fifty then a 17-35 (F4). Confined room, yes. Didn't plan it. She admits she hates posing and I do have trouble directing her. She looks great on film - moving. Fair points.

Ah, that's amazing. That is her, the beach shots. I remember she did that shoot, never saw more that a couple of pics from it. Good find anon. That one on that familiar chesterfield i did shoot in 2022, but never put it online. How did it turn up I wonder? I might have put it on 4chan /s but don't remember doing it!!
