I make small games and mods, I don't want to post what I've written and released because it is very intertwined with my public accounts but I can give you a bit of what I've been working on conceptually which may or may not get used,
it takes place during a vaguely medieval era and in a vaguely eurocentric place (yes I know very generic but I am a bit shackled by my medium) the idea is that a theocratic order or monarchy or something of the such is fighting a bit of a cold war with the merchant class, you see the merchant class (something a bit like the dutch VOC) are building power through colonization of nearby islands, the monarchists while not particularly against colonization or slavery are against the merchant class so they would send out these missionaries to spread a religion to the islanders on the outside but on the inside they really work more like unions against the merchant class, I had a few ideas of how I would connect that to a gameplay story but its hard adding depth to these kinds of things as the medium of games isnt always great for this sort of thing, its something I got into when I was young but now that im mature I fell out of love with the medium

Because I've realized that writing in capital letters offensively doesn't solve anything, and the only thing it causes is a drama where Akko will always end up as a sexual joke. i stayed up late last night looking up bunch of historical stuff, looking for answers to my questions on google. and i was stumbling on big changes in history that led to our current era.
i was trying to find answers for the holy roman empire being a precursor to modern nation states but it kept saying that it was decentralized without a sole governing authority which i found confusing because it had emperors.
looking up now it says that the emperor had limited authority compared to local rulers. it was feudalism so who possessed the most land had rule. it says the emperors cooperated with vassals to maintain authority. the other thing i was stumbling on was how the merchant class developed the middle class and led to breaking away from the traditional landowning aristocracy. business and early companies started eroding the old power structures that were in place in the middle ages. i bring this up cause it was relevant with your game concepts. and i wanted to commend you for the deep pondering of complicated macro shifts in world history. it's compelling how you treated the aristocracy as being in competition with the merchants and trying to spread religion to stifle their reach. makes me wonder about the conflict of interest between church being united with the state in the middle ages and commerce breaking that unity.
