When I was young I loved camp. When I wad in college I sought out a camp counselor summer job. I drove to new York and 80% of the councilors were foreign doing it for the Visa (work 3 months travel 1). That should have been my first red flag but I didn't realize at the time what it meant.

We arrived a week before the kids and were put to work doing camp improvement aka hard manual labor on this dude's property. The foreigners were all mad because nobody told them the drinking age was 21 and their visit was going to be dry. The camp made a big deal and banned the two of us who had cars from using them on our days off. They'd put in a soccer field and not realized why new England has so many rock walls. Our afternoons became picking rocks out of the soccer field as thousands had percolated up since it was graded.

The owner was authoritarian and weird. The head councilors were holier than thou and unsympathetic. It's was hot and they'd released millions of sterile flies to control some other species or something so the second you stopped moving they would be all over you. I once sat still without my shirt and so many flies landed the others couldn't see my skin. Thank fuck they didn't bite.

It was after one of these days that my mate, the other American with a car came in from the shower and sat on a bunk letting his fucking elephant sized balls dangle out of the towel. Not what the story is about but those colossal balls will be forever burned in my memory.

At the end of the week the day before the kids were to show up they threw a party and the holier than thou preachy head councilors bought a bunch of alcohol because after a week of labor and no beer the germans and others were ready to all quit and ship home forsaking their visas.

There alcohol mollified them but I was full of righteous indignation and went to the door of the main house (we were not allowed inside btw) turned in my badge, threw everything in my banned car and drove home (5 states away).

At the end of the summer I checked in with my American friend with the gigantic balls and he said shit just got even weirder and more authoritarian after I left and a lot of the councilors were fired over dumb shit or quit and lost their Visa either way. It was basically a shit show and he said I made the right decision in leaving.
