I think all we can do to forecast the future is look at patterns in the information we have access to now. On every observable scale we see similar cycles of life and death, decay, feeding, growth, extinction, adaptation, chaos. In human history (i guess pre-human too) you see many stark paradigm shifts divided by key technological or cultural events where the substance of daily human life can change drastically in relatively short spans. I don't think the idea of a "Ragnarok" is too outlandish considering the sort of environmentally driven extinction events we can find in our planet's history, though maybe the "soon" part is a bit of a over-dramatization considering the time scales these events occur on. Returning to a more human scale, the cultural shifts we are seeing driven by modern media are unprecedented, the interonnectivity of humankind is greater than ever before but so is its isolation. But perhaps total human suffering *has* gone down because of things like medicine and advent of an overall gentler society? But with this sprawling fragmented structure most societies are granted very little opportunity to participate in their own governance, and so naturally they + their collective land and resources are easily exploited. This planet harbors plentiful resources and energy for all of us if we develop methods to harmoniously cultivate and manage these resources, rather than gut to sell them from pure greed and leave the ground poisoned behind. I see things going one of two ways, either we achieve a new technological/cultural paradigm that brings us more into this state of harmonious usage where societies can better provide for members; or we fail to make this change and hit a breaking point around some resource probably fresh water or maybe fucking helium idk, experience societal collapse, violence, war, death, and inevitably rebirth, hopefully taking on lessons from the past and designing a more effective system. That's my forecast.

Tendency toward equilibrium is another important pattern forgot to mention that

Ran was a character in the animated series Samurai Champloo, she's one of the reasons I started watching and she's one of the reasons I continue to watch
