I bought a 3080 laptop a few years ago and I can only run 1080p on recent stuff

I hate how people throw out these numbers and just assume everyone else will understand what they mean

that's not enough to understand what it means. It's like a model number from a certain manufacturer. To have any clue about what you actually mean I would have to look up who makes it and then find some kind of comparison to other graphics cards that explains the relative quality compared to other cards

It's strange too though how the games are running on console better. They beefed them up versus last gen. The ps5 specs relative to a 2070 super and the ps5 pro relative to a 4060 ti

Graphically impressive games coming out? If you ask me nothing from the last 10 years even beats the original Crysis in terms of graphical polish. Tech has probably gotten better but publishing companies sure don't put as much effort into APPLYING that tech as they did for mid-2000s games where they had to work REALLY HARD to get games to look good. Now the tech is used more as a crutch/shortcut wherever possible rather than a tool to achieve excellence. You can feel that lack of effort now, most big games are all post production flash and sheen but 0 substance underneath.
