the new games are lazy and boring, new horizons undid almost all the weird limitations of new leaf and made it absolutely boring by giving the player everything they want, instead of working with the island you rolled, or the character face and gender you picked at the start, you can just change everything at every time, also FUCK YOU if you want to download clothes off the internet without paying for Nintendo Online!!

Seriously though, the only soulful ones have been the original GC game because the dialog and villager personalities weren't severely dumbed down with the edge taken off like in the newer games, villagers could actually be rude or mean to you unlike now.

Also, the switch from 4 dialog lines onscreen at once to 3 in future games was the beginning of the end.
The whole reason you play these games for years is to see all the dialog and in new leaf and later you basically see every possible dialog tree so quickly you stop interacting with villagers unless you're want them to not move out, that's the worst thing about new horizons, in new leaf, the intended gameplay mechanic was to have villagers come and go, hitching rides to new towns via streetpass/online play and they'd plop their house wherever they want, they would move out if you ignored them, making you at least talk more often so they wouldn't move out, now in new horizons, nothing happens unless the player lets it happen, they even ask you where to put their house, it's so souless
also they never fixed the complete lack of male clothes or customization options, you can't even make custom pants or shorts so you end up playing as a girl (male) the entire time if you like customizing clothes.
