I purchased a laxative from the Dollar General and it's been monumental in improving the quality of my bowel movements. The amount of blood in the toilet bowl has decreased to a few drops and a small strip of blood on the actual log (where I assume it scrapes against some form of wound in my asshole). I don't think that I'm going to die any more, but I'm probably still going to keep you guys posted

long term, you should get more fiber in your diet. laxatives aren't a good option because the muscles in your colon that normally push out the poop will eventually atrophy and cease to function properly. you could also try some hemorrhoid ointment or anti-itch cream if your anus is inflamed or itchy, or just make sure you're keeping it clean with some wetted toilet paper.
