when you think about it, people often say clownfish are pretty smart, especially compared with conventionally dumb animals like lizards, but this is not necessarily true. Clownfish exhibit more complex behavior and employ more creative strategies than stupid bumbling lizards with their smooth reptile brains who sit around all day thinking NOTHING -- not a single original thought occurs to them as they stand there, all day. However in truth, clownfish and lizards probably are roughly equally intelligent, especially when you consider they are both roughly the same size and probably have similar sized brains. But, when you take into account the fact clownfish live in water, which is inherently more simplified terrain to navigate, this may elucidate some of the reasoning behind clownfishes' more complex behaviors. As their dumb brain is only required to navigate uncontested, open XYZ coordinates for the most part, and their fins simply swish away through the water, less bandwidth is required to operate such fluid (bahah) movements. As the lizard navigates the complexities of more terrestrial environments, they face more complex challenges that involve climbing, jumping, planning movements, and operating under complex circumstances and inconsistent conditions. We can even see this translated into the structure of their fins and feet themselves, with the complex structure of the lizard foot reflecting the environment they traverse, in contrast to the simplicity of the clownfish's fin. By this we can theorize lizard and clownfish intelligences are comparable but asymmetrically attributed
